How is the unemployment compensation calculated?

The daily allowances of the unemployment insurance are paid for each weekday. You will therefore receive 5 daily allowances per week (Monday to Friday). Because the number of weekdays differs every month, the unemployment compensation paid out each month fluctuates accordingly:

So-called insured earnings depend on whether or not you have completed the contribution period:

Insured earnings if the contribution period has been completed

Insured earnings in case of exemption from contributions on account of training, retraining or further education

Insured earnings in case of exemption from contributions for another reason

You will receive an unemployment benefit amounting to 80% of your insured earnings:

  • if you have maintenance obligations towards your children under 25.
  • if your insured earnings do not exceed Fr. 3,797 or
  • if you are drawing a disability pension corresponding to a degree of disability of at least 40%.

In all other cases you will receive unemployment compensation amounting to 70% of your insured earnings.

The daily allowance is 70 or 80% of your insured earnings: the average number of working days per month is 21.7.

The net unemployment compensation paid out depends on the number of weekdays each month.
